This is our and
the correct procedure for BFPOs as of April 2005, in our experience not many
service people know the details and method.
Prices used by
the post office have changed several times in the last few years. Gone has the
old system of 2 price bands for close and remote BFPOs based on airmail prices.
This has been replaced by a postage system of charges as per UK internal postage
prices.
We receive a lot of orders from BFPOs, most are also un-aware
of "blueys" and "telics" etc and request that parcels should
be addressed to London, UK , Mill Hill etc, We have to follow Post Office guidelines
for BFPOs- Name - Rank Number - Unit & Detachment - BFPO Number, all references
to Towns and Countries should be omitted to prevent the parcel being mixed up
in normal mail and for security reasons.
If your order is
over 1kg then it will not be subject to the £3.50 flat rate postage we
offer as these orders are normaly sent by Securicor who we cannot use for BFPOs,
the cost price will be quoted to you for your acceptance, shipped via UK Postal
service and if too much you are welcome to cancel your order.
Recorded Post Prices As Of April 05
Weight not over Price in
£
1000g £4.28
1250g £5.16
1500g £6.04
1750g £6.92
2000g £7.80
If you wish to take advantage of VAT free purchases then you
need to obtain form 1510 signed by your commanding officer proving eligibility,
for small orders the cost of sending the form in can be as much as would be
saved on the VAT but is definately worthwhile for larger orders.
If you need any
further info please see the BFPO page on the www.postoffice.com website for
clarification
